SO we all know Appaman makes some awesome tee shirts for children right? Right! Well guess what Area peoplez? It is officially confirmed because Gwen Stefani's second son, Zuma of only a few months old was wearing the Flash Tee in white with a red lightning bolt!! Gwen has such cool style and now her baby does too!!

p.s. we still have sizes for that tee in white and blue :)

OMG Lunchbox!!!!

So I'm working at Seventh for the first time today and I came across this cool as hell Hostess, King Ding Dong lunchbox. This lunchbox brings back so many memories. I remember the myriad of lunchboxes I had as a child and how freakin' cool they were. I'm a sucker for all things old school ;)

The Coolest Gift Wrapping!!!

We started carrying a small collection of Jon Burgerman gift wrapping paper. I was so psyched when I saw them for the first time. Unlike your traditional, flowery or plain wrapping, the British artist and illustrator penned these fun, colourful, graffiti-like images filled with incredibly quirky, goofy, cute characters.

Though childlike, they can certainly appeal to adults as well.
As an adult myself - I only claim this on rare occassions - I absolutely adore his work. He also creates these designs for clothing and accessories, as well as on canvas to use as creative wall art, and many other cool merchandise. He also just created a superb line of figurines for KidRobot - which I think we should definitely start carrying - entitled, 'Heroes of Burgetown'.

A Victorian Thanksgiving...stepping back in time...

If you ever read the book, Time and Again by Jack Finney that happens to be about traveling back in time in New York City, well I will be doing just that on Thanksgiving Day! A friend of mine Harry Paul runs a Victorian style B& B in Carroll Gardens. Friends, Family and possibly B&B guests will all gather in the parlor for a festive meal to share giving thanks and gratitude.

The "Do you guys gift wrap?" is the #1 question I hear at Area. Yes, we do ..but..well..I'm not very good at it, prepare yourself. The customer then proceeds to watch me struggle over their purchase, with sad little encouraging smiles. So here are some tips for those of us less fortunate :

Give yourself a lot of extra paper.

Create clean, crisp edges. "Instead of having a seam in the middle of the box, I like to go to the side and it makes it disappear."

To get perfect "book-ends" on the sides of boxes, don't be afraid to trim as you go, and again, try to hide the seam.

Dress up your presents with bows or accessories such as cookie cutters, picture frames, and holiday ornaments.

To cover up mistakes such as running out of paper, a creative fix is to fill in the gaps with strips of something else

and my personal favorite...

Save wishbones from chickens. Clean them well, then paint. Put on a little glitter and tie them to gift packages.

So today is the first time I've ever worked at the AREA PLAY store. I have to say the best part so far, besides playing with all the toys, has been Lenny--Loretta's dog. He's so sweet and mellow. I wish I could come up with more excuses as to why I can only work at the toy store just so I can hang out and walk him. I know could totally be the official AREA dog walker!

I think after this morning I might need to purchase the Cozy Cat Aromatherapy neck wrap! The soothing lavender scent should put me at ease. Standing on top of the step ladder looking up at all the shoe boxes to re-tag has put a toll on my neck so the cozy cat looks pretty tempting right now!
