RUN DMC

My first day at area I saw the Junk food Run DMC and knew UI had to have it ... here's one reason why

Attack of the ALB!!!

While tagging on the computer at the toddler store i saw this really scary bug with wings and really long legs and freaked because i thought it was the Asian Long horned Beetle. Perhaps you have seen the ads on the subway to report them if spotted because they will kill all the trees in NYC and change our eco system forever. Scary, right? So i thought i would bring some awareness about this potential threatening creature. The ALB is a wood-boring insect that digs tunnels in the wood of hard-wood healthy trees. Worst of all the only way to stop them is to kill the tree they inhabit, or the insect itself. So for the sake of the few trees here in NYC, keep an eye out and report the insects if you see them. They enter the country in packages of lumber and other paper products from China.

If Only...

it were truly possible to change the hour with a tiny flick of your finger. Well these are a fun, portable way to pretend. We sell all the cute shapes and colors and they all have movable hour and minute hands...who needs seconds anyway?

I'm gonna Go Crazy!!

This is not going to be pretty blog! sorry to disappoint. I am getting so frustrated right now because the computer mouse at the toddler store is a complete piece of garbage!! AHHH!! I opened it up to clean it and there is nothing wrong with it, it wasn't even that dirty, but for some reason it just will not work properly. if i role it forward the mouse moves backward! What is going on!!!??? If any one can help me please, i don't want to do anything drastic.

P.S.

While i was helping make all the t-shirts, i ruined my dress, so i made my bf promise to buy me a new one!! YEA!!!

Get Your Kids Moving USA!

Here's an article that supports what I have long suspected: Children are reaching puberty at a much earlier age than before!!! According to this article, the sedentary lifestyle of constant computer, and TV surfing causes an adverse reaction in the body's levels of melatonin. Other chemicals such as BPA, and PVC also play a role in this phenomenon of "precocious" puberty. It doesn't sound bad, but remember all the emotional changes you went through during puberty well, imagine that times three. Keep your kids young safe, and active for as long as you can!!!!!!

Im Soooo Excited!!

Well, my boyfriend has just left to tour the east coast with his band, i will miss him so mucho!! However, before he left i spent 16 hours helping him and a few of his friends make 108 band t-shirts with decals on both sides. For those of you not familiar with the silk screening process it is easy, but incredibly time consuming if done by hand which is what we were doing. First you have to iron the wrinkles out of all the shirts (108 shirts!!!) Next you line the shirt up with the screen you burned, apply the paint with a special tool, blow that dry for five minutes, and heat press the decal so it dries and will not wash off. I was up until five in the morning ironing shirts and then cleaning all the fabric paint that was all over my entire apartment!!! On top of that, mu hubby is gone for a whole two weeks (tears)! Well for those of you interested my bf's band is called Scribes of Fire, They are having their album release party at Crash Mansion Aug. 16, open bar serving cran vodkas all night for our of age girls (and jeff) of course. So hope to see you there. you can get preview of their new album at www.myspace.com/scribesoffire My bf is the second from the left, ain't he cute!! :) They are really awesome and play some of the best music in the local Brooklyn scene. Ben, the singer, writes amazing lyrics. Philly, guitar, writes crazy guitar parts and has like three of the sickest solos ever!!! Kurf, drums, does not mess around when it comes to his double bass. And Mike D, bass, loves playing with his band and writing awesome bass lines probably more than he loves me!!! lol

Im SOOOOO Eccited

I Miss Ms. Marie!!!

Slackajack says hello!

I never knew Marie brought me such joy until she was taken away from me!
Now I am all alone sitting at fifth feeling no work related inspiration whatsoever.
Usually Marie and I tackle all the jobs at hand while simultaneously having fun, it is incredible!!!

Ode to Marie

What is it that brings Joy whilst simultaneously doing her Job
The crazy banters and lovely laughs of working
Putting on costumes that are way too small, even I am too tall
Cleaning windows when you can still see through them
Eating Song while throwing a ball

Keeping company when annoyances are at their best
Speaking without having to move the vocal chords
Funny faces made hidden from all the rest
Slackajack even mourns her move to the court
They decided to send her there, I am not in accord

Marie Marie thou art awesome, may you never be moved again
All the jelly cats wonder where they made you go (I didn't have the heart to tell them)
Sitting here feeling coffee jitters without someone to laugh with
I just might go crazy and punch a hoe
All I can do is procrastinate cause without Marie, only boredom comes with

( I know it probably isn't the correct format for an Ode and I am no poet, but that was from the heart!!!)

*Marie*

YES, DMV AGAIN.

Ok, I have to tell you that I did cried a lot today.
The DMV opens at 8:30am, I got there at 7:15am and there was a line of about two hundred people.
They gave me such a hard time that I decided to start crying and talk to the manager.
But the manager is not like the AREA KIDS MANAGERS (Happy and Pretty People).
The manager looked like Gargamel

And acted like Gargamel too.
I felt like I was

The Smurfette getting attacked by Gargamel.
I couldn't control myself, I was felling so sad because they didn't want to give me the driving license and also because I was running late to work (I am never ever late).
Anyway, after a while of waiting and checking papers and a bit of crying.
I got my License, Yeahhhhhh!!!!!!

I was Crying when they took the pic but finally I got it and that's all it matters.
That's my story.

Feliz Cumpleanos Patri!

Today is Patricia's birthday!!!
Hooray!!!

I am afraid to ask how old she is, but I will say, she's still young at heart.
I just asked her, and the little Costa Rican marathon runner turns 28 years young today!!!

Patricia lives her days by our country's motto

PURA VIDA!
(pure life for you gringos and gringas)

She lives her life to the fullest taking advantage of all the running opportunities she can get, and convincing her customers to buy everything.
Like any Costa Rican she has a peculiar sense of humor that takes some time to get used to, but I am sure most of us have!
She has been making her own jewelry since September 2006, and also sells clothes from Costa Rica.

So let's celebrate, and maybe drink some Imperial and mota it up on the job for Patricia!

Back to Basics

**My new Minolta X-700**

I have to take an Intro to Photography class for my last month in school. One of the requirements for the class was a manual camera, a MANUAL CAMERA!!! Astonishingly enough, they still exist, and I decided to buy a used one instead of renting, or borrowing a friends. Why? Why the heck not! I haven't used a manual camera in at least 4 years. Luckily Area pays me enough to be able to afford a used camera, and once I got it, I couldn't put it down. I did have some difficulties with it at first. I didn't set the film speed correctly resulting in what I believe is underexposure...I kept forgetting to pull the lever to go to the next frame of film, so I would see something and attempt to take a picture, but I couldn't.

Holding this manual camera in my hand just makes me think that people have become too lazy to pull levers, and think about the different settings. I think it is something worthwhile although i myself have been a slave to the digital age myself. NO LONGER! NO LONGER I SAY!!!!

I think I might just switch over to manual for a little bit, maybe even whip out the old walkman!!!

Here are a few facts about my sexy new Minolta:
1.The x-700 made its debut in 1981
2.It was awarded camera of the year in 1981
3.It was discontinued in 1999 to make way for autofocus, and digital cameras
