Night before last was chilly, today was deathly humid. I'm looking forward to autumn in full bloom. Pumpkin spice is my favorite...mmm. Like a pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin candles, and pumpkin pie! Or little babies dressed up as pumpkins for Haloween....sigh.

new girl
heather mac here. i'm new. i'm not just talking about to AREA, but to THE area...meaning, I just moved to Brooklyn from North Carolina (Greensboro) a week ago--hey! It's been great meeting the staff and I really love the store and products. For example, those little matchbook seeds/herbs/flowers are so quaint--though I hope they don't prese
nt themselves to kids thinking that matches are a toy...we should put a sign up, but small, cute, and clever ideas like that fill my view everywhere in these stores. Seeing some of the customers more than once and have them recognize me has been nice, and causes me to begin to feel like I live here. I've worked at fifth ave a few times, and it's been relatively busy, lots of fixing up of the sales section (phew). Looking forward to meeting the rest of my co-workers and locations coming up.
Winding down.
Things are winding down at the Court Street store. Today has been quite productive for me. It is less busier than yesterday (by far), which gave me the opportunity to organize behind the counter and finish tagging Zutano stuff. We still have quite a bit of stuff to tag, which is unbelievable, but I am confident that we will finish it in the next day or two! (Right, gals?)
I'd also like to add that I am listening to www.deezer.com's streaming Reggae radio and snacking on some Super Sticks. YUM!

My Future
A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.
I don't think I could have said it any better. I had an interview yesterday with the director of the English department at my college and it went very well :)
I officially have the green light to start student teaching in about a month and I am excited! Becoming a teacher has been a goal of mine for some time now and it just feels amazing because I am almost there. I truly hope that I will be that "candle" for future students. I will have to work hard and with hard work good things should/will happen.

My Fellow Employees Rock!
As i was walking to work this morning, it occurred to me that since it has been so busy at Fifth Ave. i haven't blogged in like a week! Therefore, i decided todays first order of business should b for me to blog. As you may have already gathered it has been incredibly busy at Fifth Ave. recently, not only customer wise, but with deliveries, training people, organizing the basement, keeping the store clean and organized, and helping customer get the best service they can. I would now like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been working at this store as of late, including Loretta. I have been working here for about 9 months and have never seen the store so clean, organized and just plain great looking. So thanks to everyone who has really been working so hard to make and keep the store looking great. A special thanks to Loretta who will be spending 8 wonderful hours with me organizing the basement on Monday!! We all have a lot going on in our personal lives and yet we do our best to be to work on time and ready for whatever may come our way. I leave work tired, but it feels good knowing i put in a full days work rather than flitting away 8 hours of my life. So thanks guys, you are the heart and soul of area kids!! (i had a lot of coffee and lily Allen this morning!! pardon the intense upbeat attitude lol!)
