Snail mail please!

So if your looking  for an awesome and creative way to keep in touch with people over the summer check these out!  Enough with the e-mail, why not make something unique?!  I still love to get snail mail, and think that these postcards would be great to get in the mail.  All you have to do is carve your special message with a key or something else that's sharp enough to carve with, address it, and put a stamp on it!  Get creative and make someones day!

Cool Dad Customer

A man came into 7th ave this afternoon with his two daughters. Very cute, sweet girls. He saw the new adult scooter we carry and immediately said "We should get this for mommy to keep up with you when you ride your bikes." I'm going to guess these are some awesome parents. He ended up buying the "Cruz Ultra" for his wife, and for his daughters... "Jokes on you!" the 12 pack, not even the 6. Maybe they will put some fake dog doo on the scooter before they give it to their mother!

Today would be a good day to scooter. The sun is brighter right now then it has been all day. The stores always look so nice with the sun coming through the windows. Best part about the summer is how long the sun stays up.

Free Stuff!

Sometimes we let free summer activities slip through our fingers, not because we don't want to partake in them, but mostly because we forget, and no one reminds us.

Here is a little reminder from your friendly Area KIDS semi manager :0)

These are just a few FREE activities offered in our very own NYC, all are kid friendly :0)

The Brooklyn Museum of Art is free 5–11pm the first Saturday of every month. (The first free Saturdays at the Museum are awesome! The museum opens the ballroom and offers different music every month)

The New York Botanical Garden is free all day Wednesday and Saturday 10am–noon.

The Whitney Museum of American Art is pay-what-you-wish admission Fridays 6–9pm.

The interactive 6,200-square-foot SoHo Scholastic Store is fun for kids of all ages. Free Saturday events inlcude author readings and character visits.

Picturesque Bryant Park hosts free concerts, outdoor movies and other special events in warm weather.

Take a cruise on the free Staten Island Ferry, which goes between Manhattan and Staten Island, and see the lower Manhattan skyline, harbor and Statue of Liberty.

Village Alliance offers free tours of 8th Street and Street Mark's Place in Greenwich Village Saturdays at 11:30am. Tours depart from the northwest corner of Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place.

The aforementioned Bryant Park offers free film screenings, from June through August.

Hudson River Park offers River Flicks, from July 11th to August 20th

This location is my favorite the name does not lie, Movies with a View is a beautiful setting, and there is music!! The movies run from July to August 28th.

This is one venue I have not visited, Rooftop Films, but it looks like everyone else went!

Elves and Fairies and Knights!!

As a kid i always really liked fairy tales and stories about fairies and elves. I only wish that they would have made awesome toy models of the fairies and elves i loved to read about like they have today! Schleich makes amazing hand painted figurines of dragons, unicorns, princesses, knights and of course pretty much every animal on the planet. These are great for school projects, for a collection, as an educational tool and just to play around with. I am obsessed!!

Keys, Keys, Keys

Hello my area people,
i have been having a problem and i don't want other people to have the same problem. As most of you should know we have been short of keys at the spa. For the past two Sundays, i have had a real problem trying to get into the toys store because there are only one or two full sets of keys for the store. Just a reminder, if you only work at a store once a week please leave the keys at the spa so others can get to work on time.

7th Ave looks gooood

Hey everyone,

So obviously I have not been working for Area much this summer, but I am at 7th Ave today and am really pleased with the new arrangement. It looks great in here! very organized, and straight-forward. Good job to everyone for the improvements.

I usually always work on Smith Street, but I grew up hanging out in Park Slope. Its very weird sitting in a store watching people go by instead of being on the street looking in. I always wanted to work on the avenue. I could not have worked for a cuter store. Area fits Park Slope perfectly.

Boerum Hill is Excellent

Hello Peoples

So I am pleased to report that for the summer I'll be staying in the lovely, fabulous, recently noticed for Heath Ledger-related fame Boerum Hill. Now, despite being a native Brooklynite and working at the many Area Kids stores in that neighborhood I'm not quite clear about where Boerum Hill starts and Caroll Gardens ends ... is it like the Lower East Side and the East Village? Do they overlap? Are they two different names for the same place? Or is there a big difference between the two neighborhoods - maybe a long-standing feud between the two of them? I need to know if I'm going to be living in the area for the next few months!
