Suck UK Sunjar for fathers day.......better than a 2hr massage??

We got Gennaro a Sunjar by Suck UK.... it was not quite the 2 hr. massage he wanted... but I thought the solar power jar would be fun. I was the only one thrilled as I am up about 20 times a night trying not to trip over the dog and the light helped!

Ursula has a Xootr, the ultimate Cruz.

Ursula is now riding around on a Xootr scooter. She called me as she was riding around on it and had to hang up as there had been an accident!!!!! Fortunately for her, she wasn't the one to crash, but a bicyclist who I think was checking her out......he really hurt himself.

I was going to warn her to be careful, but I did not want to see too cautionary....as I wiped out when 8 months pregnant on my boyfriends Xootr.....but that is another story.

Anyways......I expect that Ursula will never be late to work again as she has just cut her transportation time into milliseconds!

Picture is of Ursula in 60 years! I foresee the FUTURE!

kid robot and cacti, oh my!

Hey everyone! I am very excited to see us carrying yummy breakfast kid robot toys! They are actually my favorite, and I promise I will not buy all of them (atleast not all at once!). You can usually find me snatching them up at the kid robot store in soho (on prince street).

oooohh and speaking of kid robot, we're having a buy three get one free sale here at the toy store! ooh la la!

OH OH and in other news, I purchased a spherical cactus ($12.99 at AREA KIDS!!) and planted it about 5 days ago and
it has sprouted! I am very very excited about this! It is SUPER easy and fun to watch for sprouts. In the little tin you get white sand (to prevent rotting roots), black sand (as soil), and seeds. It takes about 5 minutes to spread the seeds in the sand, add water, sun, and wait! I always recommend these types of gifts for kids. Its a great way to learn about the science of growth, and how important it can be to the environment and your health to grow your own vegetables and plants! We have a few different varieties of planters that come with seeds, HOW FUN!!

oh and thank goodness for Pandora radio! (for providing me with the perfect amount of streaming music to calm me while I get dizzy from the amount of adorable kids and toys around here!) Listening to "The Blow" radio. Yeah!!

The best sandals are Salt Water Sandals.

This year at AREA we are not selling too many sandals. Carrying shoes is complicated. So many sizes and of course storage issues as space is limited. But I love Hoy Shoes and have just ordered a lot more, they have been around for over 60 years. I think the companies sales have increased by 50% since last year. I only like the ones with the rubber bottoms. The other ones with the leather bottom are more common but seem less comfortable for playing at the park, etc..

We are running out of Sophie the Giraffe again....but what about Chan pie Gnon?

We order Sophie the Giraffe by the hundreds........but the new teether by the same company is almost as cool. Not yet as popular, but very cute.

This song makes me want an AREA Kids in LA.......

Swaddles!

If you are starting to wear your shorts and sandals, then that means your baby is ready to be swaddled! Swaddles can be used year-round but are most popular in the Summer time because they are known to be light and they give baby just the amount of coolness that it needs.

Swaddle blankets are made from muslin, which is not only soft for your baby but comfortable as well. They protect your baby and seem to be the best blanket option for air flow.

What can you do with a swaddle? A lot! Use a swaddle to shield baby from the sun, to wrap baby up and keep it warm, or to cover up while breastfeeding. The uses for swaddles are almost endless. :)

I can't forget to mention how adorable these swaddles are. If you're feeling simple or creative, pick up some plain white swaddles and dye them yourself, like the previous blogger just mentioned about the organic onesies. For those of you who like things a little more stylish for baby, pick up a pack of camo or animal-print swaddles!

2-packs and 4-packs are available at Area Kids. Check them out!

My next post is going to be about my favorite items that we sell at Area Kids, along with the best sellers, so don't miss it. ;)

Going the cloth diaper route with G Diapers.........

With my first child we used only cloth diapers..we loved them! We used all-in-ones which means no diaper pins and plastic covers. They were really easy to use as we had a washing machine. Plus they make these little liners that were like fabric softener liners, you just flush them when they were soiled. Now we are undergoing major renovations and we have no washing machine! So we are going to try G Diapers. They have a liner that you flush down the toilet so nothing sits in a landfill. I still think cloth diapers are environmentally better...but these seem like a happy medium until I get a washing machine again....I bought them at the Park Slope Food Coop. I thought about selling them at AREA Kids, maybe in the future.

We don't sell these....but I like them......

My baby boy is almost here and as everyone who shops at AREA Kids knows, I carry a lot of girl clothing....so I am hoping to be inspired by cute boy clothes in the future. But for now I have bought 24 Gerber Organic onesies at Target..... I figure it is hot and what else is better for a baby boy. White organic onesies, they are inexpensive and the quality is better than the nonorganic. I think it would be fun to dye them myself with some natural dyes as they are only sold in white.

Moon Rocket is cool.

The Moon Rocket Playhouse is one of those items that should be really popular but isn't .......I think most people in Brooklyn do not have the space for it. It makes a great present as the box it comes in is huge and it has a carrying handle.
